Afghanistan win by 45 runs


Sports desk: Afghanistan have won the 1st T20 match against Bangladesh in Dehradun. They set a 168-run target for Bangladesh while Tigers made 122 for all wickets in 19 overs. Liton Das scored 30 for 20 balls while Mahmudullah 29 for 25 balls. Rashid Khan took three wickets, Nabi and Shapoor two while Karim Janat and Mujib one.

Afghanistan scored 167 losing 8 wickets after 20 overs. Opener Ghani made 26 runs in 24 balls before Rubel sent him back to the pavilion. Mohammad Shahzad (wk) made 40 runs, Asghar Stanikzai 25 and Shafiqullah Shafiq 24. Mahmudullah took two wickets, Abul Hossain two, while Shakib and Abu Jayed took one.

Earlier, Bangladesh have won the toss and opted to bowl first against Afghanistan in the 1st match of the series.

Afghanistan are placed higher than Bangladesh in the ICC rankings. They trounced Zimbabwe in their most recent T20 series and possess a spin attack that has quickly become the envy of the world.

To tackle them, Bangladesh relied on the experience of Tamim Iqbal, Mushfiqur Rahim, Shakib Al Hasan and Mahmudullah.
