Veteran cultural personality Aly Zaker has been honoured with Noren Biswas Padak (Noren Biswas Award) this year. The award was handed over at a programme–in memory of the late Bakshilpacharya (elocutionist) of Kanthoshilon, Noren Biswas–at Chhayanaut auditorium in the capital on Saturday.
Presided over by Kanthoshilon president Dr Sanjida Khatun, Dhaka University professor emeritus Dr Anisuzzaman and eminent painter Mustafa Monwar were present at the programme, who also handed over the award to Aly Zaker.
Besides, noted thespians Ramendu Majumdar, Mamunur Rashid and cultural minister Asaduzzaman Noor wished Aly Zaker through video messages.
During the programme, two separate documentaries on Noren Biswas and Aly Zaker were screened. Also, the recitation artistes of Kanthoshilon recited poems at the event organised by Kanthoshilon.
To note, Aly Zaker first acted in the stage drama ‘Kobor’ in 1972 from the theatre troupe, Arnyak. The play was written by Munier Chowdhury and directed by Mamunur Rashid and the first show of the play was staged at the Engineering Institution. In June of 1972, in response to a call from Ataur Rahman and Zia Haider, he joined Nagarik Nattyasampraday, where he acted in ‘Buro Shaliker Ghaare Roh’ under the direction of Ataur Rahman.
