Dhaka: President M Abdul Hamid today asked police to perform their duties responsibly and neutrally for ensuring security in the society.
“Perform duty neutrally upholding democratic values and human rights”, the President told senior police officers while addressing a meeting at Bangabhaban marking the Police Week 2018, reports BSS.
The President urged police personnel to serve for the country and its people with utmost patriotism, honesty and sincerity being imbued with the spirit of Liberation War.
Noting that ‘the rule of law’ is very important in the democratic state and society system, he said, “People usually go to your door when they fall into trouble, so you have to be more cordial so that each service-seeker can get uninterruptedly service from you”.
Abdul Hamid said people expect that Bangladesh Police will be established as service-oriented and people-friendly institution.
Referring to the outstanding performance of policemen in curbing militancy and terrorism that helped restoration of the peace and satisfaction in civic life, the President said Bangladesh Police also put the sign of utmost professionalism and fame in different United Nations peacekeeping missions alongside maintaining internal security.
Abdul Hamid also lauded the performance of female police members in the peacekeeping missions saying the success and glorious role of the police in the international arena has given Bangladesh a unique status.
“You must continue your nonstop efforts to uphold this respect achieved abroad”, the President advised the policemen.
He said the prime and sacred duty of police is to maintain internal security of the country, the security of people’s life and property, establish the rule of law and prevent terrorism as well as crime from the society.
President Hamid urged all police officers and police personnel to remain active in providing necessary legal aid to the people from their respective positions.
“Your collective efforts will help make Bangladesh Police as a people- oriented and service-oriented organisation by gaining people’s dependency and confidence,” the President added.
About different pragmatic steps taken by the incumbent government to increase and modernize the technical expertise of the police, President Hamid said the Cyber Crime Investigation Centre and DNA Lab were established for proper investigation into the militants and terrorism, drug detection, cyber crimes and other sensational cases.
Abdul Hamid also put emphasis on the community policing saying, “Work together with people to strengthen the community policing activities for further improving the law and order across the country”.
The President also sought everyone’s active and united participation to materialise the “Vision-2021” and build a safe, happy and developed “Digital Sonar Bangla” envisioned by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan, Inspector General of Police (IGP) AKM Shahidul Hoque, Public Safety Division Secretary Mostafa Kamal Uddin, senior police officials and secretaries concerned to the President, among others, were present on the occasion.
