Dhaka: To the students waging the movement against quota, Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on Sunday said the threat to launch a movement for gazette notification in this regard is illogical as Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has already settled the quota issue and she never reneges on her words, reports UNB.
He came up with the disclosure while speaking at a press briefing at the Secretariat.
“The Prime Minister has already settled the quota issue. There’ll be no quota system. The quota system for which the movement was launched has already been abolished. We should trust what the Prime Minister said in Parliament,” he said.
The minister said the process to issue a gazette notification on the quota system is underway.
He, however, said some issues should be sorted out before publication of the gazette as there are children of freedom fighters, women, ethnic minorities, people with disabilities and citizens of some backward districts among the beneficiaries.
Quader also asked the students to have patience, saying they will get the solution soon. “The movement has already done enough damage. I hope they’ll return to their classes.”
